I put big radius pipes on my 07 lowrider. I knew I would probably have to have it mapped. I have been riding it for about 700 miles(weather in Ohio has sucked). It runs good but pops when I shift especially in town. I stopped at a local dealer today to ask about getting it remapped. Service manager said I needed a new air cleaner and a tuner and it would take 6-8 hours of tuning to get it right. Estimate of about $1100.00. Also said if I continue to ride it, I'm causing a slow death to the top end.
I stopped at an Indy and he said I should be able to just remap it without any other mods.
You can remap it without the new A/C, and it'll run OK, but you won't get the full benefit of the bike's potential without an Hi-flo air cleaner, and a race tune & dyno. The indy is correct about runnin' pipes without a tune & ruining your engine. A bike that's runnin' too hot (lean) will usually still run well. Take the bike out for a short ride (1 mile is enough) AT NIGHT, then when you get back to your garage, get off the bike & while it's STILL idling & look at the pipe where it exits the rear head. If it is glowing red,STOP RIDING & immediately get a tune. You are most likely running too hot. $1100 seems a tad high for a race tune, dyno run, & air cleaner install. Should be right around $8-900.

Any suggestions?
Just ride it.
With the stock ECM, you shouldn't need a new map just for running aftermarket exhaust. Add a high flowing air cleaner, like the Stage 1 or Big Sucker air cleaner, then you might need a stage 1 download or some sort of fuel management system. When I was running Vance and Hines Big Shots Staggered, a Stage 1 air cleaner, and a stage 1 download, my bike still popped. I think the service manager is looking for some quick cash.
6-8 hours to tune a bike? They need to hire a trained tuner.
I know my buddy took his VRod to Americade last year and they have a mobile Dynojet company and they did a new mapping set-up and fine tuned his PC in about an hour. 6-8 hours seems like they are trying to get you for some serious extra cash

Just ride it.. But It'll still be EPA lean on the A/F.
Lots of people just have just done the pipes.
Lots of people do pipes and a High flow A/C, then U'll should do a F/M system of some kind or DL.
I did the pipes, A/C, and SERT/dyno to help cool her down and run better at the 1k, but I also knew I'd be keeping this one a while..
If U plan on doing cams which will make a "BIG" difference I do it all at once to save some $$$$.
everything is over priced on the island intake and a powercommander you can put on yourself and if you get something easy like V&H fuelpack or the Cobra EFI you can look up the settings and spend alot less than $1100
