Last Thursday a friend and I went on a ride up into Tn. We took the back roads to Tellico Plains and rode the Cherohala Skyway. We decided to stay overnight in Gatlinburg then ride the ‘Moonshiner 28’ the next day. We got to Gatlinburg and since I’m getting to be an old fart (58) I was packing my AARP card.
I saw the AARP sign at the Gatlinburg Inn so we stopped there to check on a room. As we were parking our bikes a security guard walked up and asked if he could help us. I told him we were going to check on a room and he said, “We don’t allow motorcycles here.” I asked him why and he said they catered to an older crowd there. I laughed and said I was an AARP member. He said he was sorry but they didn’t allow motorcycles. We left and got a room at another motel.
So if you’re in Gatlinburg on your bike and looking for a room don’t bother stopping at the Gatlinburg Inn. And if you’re in your cage don’t bother stopping there either!
This happened a lot in the past. Some crap never changes. I think you OP should contact AARP and tell them that the Gatlinburg Inn discriminates against members who ride motorcycles. I doubt if it makes a difference but as least they know that it is being discussed.
