Been having problems with my 2004 Electra Glide, EFI (47,500 miles). Noticed it sputtering a bit when gettin' on it hard. Then it started sputtering and trying to stall...hard to keep it running, but then would clear up and be fine for rest of ride home. Now it's trying to stall every time I stop. Running Vance and Hines pipes and Kuryakyn Pro-R Hypercharger. Getting the check engine light on and off. Pulled up codes P1353 and P1356 (no combustion front and rear cylinders).
So far, I have changed the plugs and wires, cleaned the air filters, replaced the RevTech DFO, replaced the ignition coil, checked the gas lines inside the tank. Nothing has worked. The coil was the last thing I did and it actually made it run worse. Had heard something about a problem with the DFO's and 2004 EFI models, but can't seem to confirm if there is an issue.
Any more suggestions? I'm running out of options and going on three weeks without my bike. ouch! Need to get it up and running quick! First time I've ever had any issues with this bike (that wasn't a dealer caused issue). I won't take it back to this particular dealer EVER and the next nearest one is 70 miles away.
Thanks...but I found the problem. Since it started to run even worse AFTER I replaced the coil, I went back to check that out with a clear head. Took it off and put it back on completely...cleared the codes...and now the bike is running fine. Finally! No sputtering or check engine light. The real test will be the rush hour stop and go traffic tomorrow. ugh.
Still not sure if the DFO crapped out and caused the coil problems or if it was just the coil itself. Been told the DFO's usually only last about 5 years anyway...and it was going on 6 so no harm in replacing it.
Now...on to the brakes on the ol' man's bike. Should be a much easier job...lol
Thanks for responding...will keep the compression issue in mind.
Ah well now that didn't work either. I'm on to code P0118 (ET Sensor Open/High). Will try replacing the sensor but have a sneaky feeling it's starting to roll codes and my ECM is bad.
I had a DFO that went bad (engine would idle and accelerate, but would not run at a constant speed) I sent it back to the manuf. and they sent me a TFI for a replacement. I ran that for about 3 yrs. until I went to a thundermax when I changed engine to 95", gear drive .585 cams, ported the heads and 58mm TB, DFO-TFI did not work for these changes. BTW mine is a 2004 Ultra Classic
