Straight weight oil in a late model engines isn't the best option , if you don't follow proper warm up you can blow out gaskets & orings on them . I replaced a load of evo stuff over the years because of that and twinkies have thinner sealing areas in some critical spots .

Thank you very much. I was going to pm you on your thought on straight weight in a Twinkie. Answered me before I could ask.

Does it hurt to put in dino oil after you've been running synthetic?

No , harley engines are 95% roller and ball bearings so it doesn't make a rats *** difference on which lube with those . All the debate over this stuff was directed at auto engines with lots of high speed solid sliding metal to metal surfaces , those it has a real impact on , Only solid bearings in a twin cam are small rocker arm bushings that move about 1/4 of their diameter , no high speed rotating at all .

I noticed the other day that Walmart is now carrying Mobil1 15w/50 in 5-quart jugs again (they stopped carrying the 15w/50 for a number of months). Cost is about $27.

It doesn't matter what brand as long as it is diesel rated...read your owners manual.

I agree, but it really works well when temps are never above 70f. I ran a temp/level dipstick in the LoBoy for 2 years, and even after riding 180 miles it was never abover 220 degrees f. I ran the Bassani RR Long with the Q/baffle and had 02ied's, so that may have helped.

Another oil thread? I hate to admit it but oil threads are entertainment. I find myself mixing old habits with new technology. I run synthetics but I put heavy weights back in my transmissions on my Harley's. I switched to Mobile 1 V twin when I could no longer find 20-50 Mobile 1. I have used Aero shell in my airplane engines but never considered it in my air cooled motorcycles or V8 engines over blend issues. Just started using synthetics in my jeep, truck, and all my boats because I liked how they acted in my Harley's. I haven't changed the miles or time interval but I have increased the cost of my oil changes. I know that they have a longer recommended interval and I am wasting oil replacing it too soon. Oil is cheap compared to engines. I am glad oil technology has gotten better. I remember when the gas was dirty and the oil got dirty fast.

Have used Valvoline in my trucks for longer than I can remember so when Autozone ran a sale on the Valvoline 20/50 motorcycle oil I bought 48 quarts. It was 1.99 a qt on sale.
