Has anybody used Valvoline or Castrol motorcyle oil in their sportster? Currently using HD conventional oil. First Harley, just wondering if the HD oil is that much better than the ones i mentioned.
Those three are probably about the same and will do a fair job for most riders.
If you ride hard or just want something better step up to a high quality full synthetic like Amsoil, Mobile 1, Royal Purple or Motul if your going to make a change.
I ran the Valvoline MC oil in my old Yamaha Radian for as long as I had it. Never had any problems, and that bike shared the engine oil with the transmission and clutch.
I'm using Valvoline oil now but not the motorcycle oil, I use the VR-1 oil in 20w50, just the regular non-synthetic oil. Heard lots of good things and read some analysis reports and it seems to work fine in our air cooled motors.
I'm sure the HD oil is fine but like a lot of their stuff, it seems overpriced for what it is. As long as you use the correct weight, and keep it changed, any oil will do the job. The only person who is going to tell you the HD branded oil is better is someone working at a dealership.

Before I made the switch to synthetic a few years ago, I ran Castrol (GTX dino version & then the MC dino when it came out) for over 3 decades and never had any problems.
A bud of mine has been running Valvoline in all his sportys for years, no problems.
