Compensator ... Get it replaced with the SE Compensator
I just went thru the same thing wit my 2007 with a 103 . The Compensator is not beefy enough... When the Bike gets hot the starter starts going in sideways... etc... causing all sorts of maladys... That's technically not exactly whats happening... but that's my interpretation. Any how the the SE Compensator will be money well spent... Get Compression releases also if'n you have spare change. You will not regret it. https://www.hdforums.com/forum/gener...-when-hot.html Be sure and read the second page of the thread. Harley warranted the work for me.

Thanks guys, I dont think it is s solonoid problem. I took it apart and cleaned it up. The starter kicks is and engages. When the 2 gerars connect the starter keeps spinning but the starter gear stops. Sometimes it really makes a loud noise when it is turning over. King of like it is disengageing then jumping back in. Does this sound like a compensator Issue? I might call Hd customer service. I had really good luck with them back in 99 when I went through the new twin cam bearing issue.
Sounds exactly like the Compensator issue.. click on the link in my last post to see what all it affected. It sounds sorta sounds like a washing machine transmission on the blink near as I can relate it...
That is exactly what the overrun clutch is for. Its basicaly a one way bearing. When it goes bad the starter will grind bad on hot starts but start when its cold and sometimes it will engauge and sound like a dead battery and not spin the ring gear.

Thanks Soft02. I see the new bikes all come with the 103 motor. They all have a better compensator and automatic compression releases. Maybe they have been following my issue LOL.
I agree. My comp self districted at 28,000 miles along with a bad main shaft bearing and a bad IPB. I usually don't jump straight for the comp when their are noises in the primary but I must say it was the best 207.00 I ever spent on my bike. I would try to do it yourself if that is posible. Its good to know what's going on in their.
