You might find this site helpful--road closure info for Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri all on one page.

Sharknose - Thanks for the site. Looks like I can't get to Hwy 2 West in Nebraska City even though they say it is open coming from the South. I am heading that way anyway and will talk to the ladies at the welcome station in Missouri, Iowa, Kansas.

I believe you can turn west at Rockport on 136. Turn right on 75 to Nebraska City. Turn left on 2 to I80. Probably heavy with truck traffic avoiding the flood.
What day were you planning on passing thru KC? I cant leave until 7 but I'm looking for people to ride up there with.
This is from a buddy in Omaha last week.
Ok, there are a couple of ways to go around the flood. 1) 29 north and just north of Mound City take Highway 59 all the way to I80 and head west to 29 north. Looks like 29 is open around Sioux City and good all the way to I90. 2) or west on I70 to Salina and up Highway 81 through Yankton to I90. Coming home you might want to try S.385 to Highway 92/26 to Ogallala and 80 west but from Ogallala to Lincoln is just NEBRASKA........

We are spending the night in Bentonville, Ar. on Thursday. Probably be passing through KC around 7:AM turning West towards Manhatten, KS and then North to Concordia, KS where we will spend the night. Saturday to Alliance, NE, spending the night there. Sunday ride the hills and then to Ellsworth AFB. As are most plans made by man, they are all subject to change as the daily ride situation dictates.

Well think have it figured now for me .. Basically same route was going to take but jumping off I-29 just north of St Joseph and taking 71 N up to I-80 then west back to I-29 .. Thought about Hwy 59 would save a few miles but thinking that will be designated detour road so may gain a little time by going 71 although a few more miles but not enough to ruin your day .. It's all good as long as got 2 wheels turning ..

FYI for those of you going north to head over on I90, there was a post in another thread on here saying there was a lot of road construction. Miles of milled surface, even said there was motorcycle warning signs up.

Are you talking 29 north of 680? If so, how many miles would you estimate?

i have not been up there but according to the Iowa DOT website only the lower part of I 29 in Iowa is closed. You can hit Hwy 275 in Northern MO up to 36 and come back into I 29 about mile 40. Have to go to the east side of council bluffs, I680 is still closed but that only adds a few miles. I figure total detour adds about 15-20 miles.
