I got trapped in that madhouse that circles the Arch De Triump in Paris on a Harely during rush hour went round that damn thing 4 times
That's funny. When I was there I was thinking there was NO WAY I would want to be in that mess with those crazy French drivers. They only know full throttle and full brake. You have more courage than I do.. I stuck with the Metro.
To the OP - Sorry for your misfortune. The guy obviously was looking where he shouldn't have. Glad you're ok. Fyi - my insurance provides for a loaner should anything happen to it. Maybe yours does too.
Around here, I like the roundabouts. They are usually in rural areas and manageable. And they sure beat having some blue hair turn left in front of you.
I can only think of two roundabouts in my area. One is a two lane and the other single lane. Don't recall ever having problems at either one. Really kinda baffled why they would be confusing to some, it's such a simple concept. But then I need to remember, they are those out there that will always complicate the **** out of something simple.
Roundabouts are fine. Here in the UK we have lots - same in Europe (I've been on that one in Paris - it's no problem - actually its fun - but you do need your wits about you). They keep traffic flowing quite well here where population densities are higher overall. Although there are accidents at roundabouts usually they happen at lower speeds and not at right angles (such as when someone runs a red light intersection) so the severity is much reduced.
As others have said - it's people who are unfamiliar with them who have the problems.
Problem is Americans don't know how to drive in a roundabout. I have driven 'em in London on the WRONG SIDE, but to do here is a nightmare 'cause even though I know how to use them, most people don't. Always hate that roudabout in Clearwater beach;what a mistake THAT was! Have also driven 'em in Rome, where there are no traffic laws, just traffic suggestions, AND Paris, where you actually HOPE you hit someone!
Hope you get it fixed soon, and I would be having a Dr. look at that back. Get a lawyer. Here's a chance to get that '012 103". Good luck.
we have a few turncircles around here. they are all single lane so it makes it easier for traffic flow then a 4 way stop, but more dangerous in my opinion. they installed a turncircle on a extremely dangerous intersection a few yrs back. it's on a 50mph country road with a blind intersection that in a normal yr 2-3 people would die. so far to date no one has died as result.

Southern Wisconsin has been getting lots of them, DOT is in love with them here since they don't have to maintain any stop lights. They may cut down the traffic deaths, but cause problems for pedestrians and the amount of accidents is up at certain interesctions now. I hate them since most people still don't know how to deal with them. In a cage, I'm very aggressive going though them, no patience for stupidity.
As a side note, I do like them in winter after fresh snow with no plowing yet, funny to see idiots driving right into the center area and getting stuck.

Very true. In addition to that, the cost to "control" the intersection is significantly reduced because you do not have the expense of supply power and equipment for the lights.
It almost seems they have put them in where plain old stop signs are sufficient. I wonder if the "stimulus" money has something to do with that?
I do now recall that I had a friend get clipped by a cage at the roundabout west of Sheboygan by Menards. Minor, but still a crash due to someone's confusion.
