Default A few thoughts on armor.....

I have always worn a helmet, but recently thought about getting some CE armor. I hate most of the jackets they sell, not many of the armored mesh or leather jackets fit me well, and most anything nice is so damn expensive. Then if you find something, that is all you can wear if you want protection.

I am a hoody guy, love to ride in comfortable good fitting hoody (not much protection). I recently found a CE armored hoody by Speed&Strength and bought it. I love the thing, only problem, it's black, as is my hemet and my bike is kinda black too.......

I like to wear orange or white to help me be visible, but the hoody only came in black. I had 2 different people pull out in front of me the first 2 weeks I wore it (too much black). Damn, back to the drawing board.

I did some more research and oredered a Knox FastBack back protector and some RS Taichi stealth CE elbow gaurds that slide on with a mesh sleeve. I geared up with my new armor under a white hoody and went out today for about 3 hrs, with no discomfort at all and I know the bright white is much better than black. I could not even tell I had the elbow gaurds on, and the CE back protector has holes and ridges that raise it just off your back and the air flows right down through it. I know a hoody won't do much sliding on the pavement, but the CE armor sure will help and it is totally comfortable and barely even noticeable under a hoody. The Knox Fastback also cover the shoulders, great piece for the back.

I know everyone does it different, but thought I would throw this out there for anyone like me, looking for a bit of light comfy protection. It gives me more versatility and I can wear it under anything that's not tight. Not bad for $139.

I wear a Tour Master Air Intake. It's mesh with armor in the shoulder, elbows and back. It's made for riding and fits well. It also has a waterproof and quilted liners which make it usable in the winter down to the mid 30's. I know you were not asking for alternatives, but I like my purchase. I got the white striped which also has reflective piping.

I occasionally use something very similar but different.
The UFO Plast's product emphasizes back support, but is marketed as a "protector".

It does relieve back fatigue on a long ride, but I have not yet tested its value as armor.

All and any input is welcomed. The more we all share our experiences, the better is it for everyone in the long run. I did another thread kinda like this, but think I did it in the sporty forum. I like to hear peoples experience with all kinds of bike related products.

Tour Master Air Intake 2. Wear it always. Have ridden when it is 103 degrees and humid and it was still comfortable as long as I was moving at all.

I've gone from ATTGATT to sneakers and jeans and a T (and the mandated helmet) in just two months.

Armor's great on the road, but too damn hot at the stoplight.

I have a River Road Mesh with armor (shoulders, elbows, back). Mesh is cool with the breeze and it's not too bad when stopped. It's also hot in Alabama, but I guess I'd rather slide on hot pavement in a mesh jacket than slide on hot pavement with just my skin. I have an armored leather jacket for cooler weather. I also have chaps for cooler weather. I know jeans don't offer much slide protection but I haven't gone full ATGATT for summer. Think I'll pick up a pair or two of the Draggin' Jeans or something similar. I always wear boots and gloves (though I do switch between fingerless and full finger styles, they are both padded palms). Someone once said "dress for the slide, not the ride". Sounds like good advice to me, but everybody has their own style and opinion and I guess that's mine.

as the poster above mentioned draggin'g jeans, thought I'd throw another brand of jeans in the mix - Hood Jeans http://www.hoodjeans.co.uk/acatalog/...eans-mens.html I own a pair of each and the Hood jeans win as you can order the leg length you want (Draggin' you have to turn them up yourself) and they are ready to fit hip & knee protectors with velcro.
