Default In search of a butt ache cure

Here's a reader digest version of my story: Bought my first bike in 20 years, 9 months ago. Piled 9,000 miles on it since then with the longest ride being 1,800 miles in 4 days. I began to notice the more time I spent in the saddle of my 98 Dyna Convetible, the shorter time I could ride without discomfort. Last month or so, my butt ache became so steady, I found myself having to shift around on the couch to what TV!! I began to study the inter-net looking for a remedy.

Two weeks ago I got in the seat pad I hoped would work. I choose the Air Hawk II. It's an air pad....Partner, I am very impressed. I can set down and ride now in total comfort.

As a disclaimer, I've not been on anything more then a 30 minute ride so far.....but looks like I'm not gonna end up a criple after all.

I've noticed in a lot of threads, folks commenting on different seats, and how long they can ride......hope my expierence can help some of you boys like me....a fella without a lot of extra meat to sit down on.

I couldn't be happier to see this thread!!!!! I was at Sturgis and but about 350 miles on my bike a day and sitting on my bony behind hasn't been the same since. I have a Street Glide and the stock seat is brutal. I had "the Seat Doctor" at Sturgis do some work to the seat...no better. I had also tried a C&C seat (prior to going to Sturgis) which was no less uncomfortable and substantially thinner which allowed for alot of engine heat to transfer to my already sore behind...bad combination

A buddy of mine loaned me a gell pad which has been "ok" on short rides but I can tell it's not a long term cure so I've been considering the AirHawk. I'm still pondering a Mustang seat as well

I'm curious about how it changes your seating position.

I'd be interested in how you make out on a longer ride...keep us posted

I ride a 04 Softail Standard , put a Sundowner seat from Harley on it a short time after getting the bike. Best seat I have ever sat on .Can ride all day. But that is just my opinion and my butt. Ya'll be safe.

Replaced the stocker on mine with a Mustang Vintage seat . .I think it's 1/2" or 1" wider than the stock but the build quality is SOOOOO much better. Wish I had done it on day 1 . . .

Thanks for the info on the Air Hawk II. I picked up a Mustang Regal Duke seat for my long rides and it really made a difference. May look at the Air Hawk II as well.

'06 LR here.

Stock seat - 2-3 hours - butt bone sore

Modified stock seat - 3-4 hours - butt bone sore

Mustang solo seat - 6-8 hours - butt sore but not bone sore

So my vote is for the Mustang. Previously my day rides were limited by how long my butt could last in the saddle. Now I can put in a good 8-10 hours in the saddle before the butt says, "Get me off of this thing!"

Safe Riding.....

P.S. I have no affiliation with Mustang seats whatsoever, just a very satisfied customer.

I have been having horrible hip and lower back pain. Last week I took my bike out of town to Detroit for my Military training. I was hurting but I wanted to ride so bad i didnt care. By the time I got back home I could barely sit, right leg was numb. I went to a Chiropractor Wed and Fri. today I feel 100% better. Planning a 300 mile ride today. Maybe try a Chiropractor?

Lets clarify a bit here are you suffering from bruised cheeks from that dreaded white guy affliction " NoAssAttol " of does it go down to deep bone joint aches ? Makes a difference for informed and correct advice to be given .

This would be my experience as well. I have the Mustang Supertouring and it is very good. The only seat that I like better was the Russell Day-long on my BMW. It was truly all day comfort. But, they are fugly.

The pad I bought was the medium size 14"x14". Fit my Dyna Seat real good. It's sort of trick because you fill it up by blowing into it, then as your sitting in the bike, you twist the air nossle and let some air out slowly as you settle down into the cushion. As the instructions say...you sit in the seat not on it. What I noticed immediately is that my weight was distributed evenly underneith me, rather then on the two pressure points that were agravated and hurting. The bottom of the pad is made of some kind of rough slip resistant rubber material and there is no shifting around while riding. NO noticeable change in riding position.

I know one thing for sure.....I'd regressed to the point even a 30 minute ride to town was uncomefortable......now, it's like I had a *** transplant. I'm a new man.
