yesterday the wife and I took a day trip, her on her 2011 SuperLow me on my 2009 Ultra classic. we did the same road, turned virtually every corner the same, but when we got done for the day, she was roughly 4 miles less on the odometer. Total miles for the day roughly 450 miles, so I suppose it's withing tolerance. just thought they would be closer.
I ran an Iron Butt up to Sturgis this year (actually 2). Over the 1,738 mile run my odometer was almost exactly 2% more than the distance registered by the GPS.
I believe the GPS because it was most closely to Mapquest and MaponUs distances. That and I think satelite technology is a little more advanced/accurate than Harley's
Over a few different long trips (1000 miles or more) I've calculated that my 09 Ultra is off 2.6% compared to my GPS. I've also timed myself against the mile markers for 10 miles at a time and it comes back about the same.
I ran a 1500 mile Iron But back from Sturgis. H-D speedo was at 1500 and the Garmin was at 1490 when I got to my exit. I passed it up and rode 15 more miles and turned around after getting fuel, just to be safe.

it could be somewhere between the two. how many hills did you have on your ride? the gps is not gonna register the increased distance you did while going up and down.

wow, would not have figured they would be that far off. when we ride our snowmobiles we are normally within 1/5 - 1 mile between them. I figured that was my track spinning and hers not. does make you wonder which one of us is slower or faster?

Very good point.
Very few hills on this run. Alabama to Miss. up the delta into Mo. across Mo, Ks., Ne. and S Dak.
I did however gain 3000 feet of elevation which is 1.68 feet per mile ridden. An almost non-existent grade but had to have some impact.
I will go back to my log and reveiw the GPS and odometer readings from Boonville MO to York NE. I know all that was flat.
