Ran my FLTCHU into a 1 1/2 foot ditch at about 15-20mph. My Harley shop claimed the frame cracked, needed a huge number of replacements that it certainly did not need and my Ins. Co wanted to total it because of an $11,000 repair bill! It's a '07. After going over the bike with a mechanic I whittled the cost down to $9500 ... And the parts ordering began. Everything came in except a "y" pipe that is made in Japan--on backorder. The shop has had my bike now for nearly four months waiting for this part. The Service mgr. said HD had been aware of this problem shortly after the '07s came out.
I wrote a letter to HD Hqtrs in WI. and they simply appologized. What else could they do?
My problem is if HD knew of this common problem 4 years ago, why didn't they notify owners and offer to replace them then?? Do they not have an inventory control system? Do they not have ears to hear about their own problems? This is my first HD after owning several other brands. I've never had such rotten service on any of the others.
Am I alone with this type of complaint or have others experienced similar situations?
Sounds like you made all of the decisions to get to this point, how is this Harley's fault? You should have totaled the bike like they wanted, and been riding a new one four months ago.

+1 Good Point.
Could also be a good time for an aftermarket part.......

I'd say the same. OP - you went all summer without riding because of a piece of exhaust pipe? I find that hard to believe. I think I'd put on some aftermarket exhaust before I'd do that.
Hitting ditches at 20 MPH.....you may want to trade for a
KTM250?
Sorry they don't have every part in stock for your bike. Did you try other dealers?
On-line? I bet someone on here has that part laying in the shed after replacing the stock exhaust? Should have posted your need four months ago. (You know there was a tsunami in Japan.....LOL) But good luck on the bike repair.
I would not want to ride a bike with a repaired cracked frame (and certainly wouldn't want to sell it to someone else). Unless there was no insurance and no other options. You say you never had this kind of service from the other bikes you had. Did you run all of them into a ditch as well?
