I have seen the threads on chaps and riding pants, but there is not much discussion of gaiters.
Do any of you guys have experiences good or bad with HogGaiters or Leather Legs gaiters? Talking both quality and usefulness.
My shins get cold when I am wearing work pants and it is under 40, but I don't think I need chaps. I thought these would be a good compromise, would keep my pants dry if the roads were wet too.
I have been wearing and using a pair of quality gaiters since early 1980's. Best $ I ever spent. Quick on and off, very functional. But, they were designed for cross country/deep snow work, so they don't have the "look".

+1. Easy to pack and will keep you mostly dry and warm during a rain.

If you are using chaps as the standard for looks, I would wear gaiters instead. No offense to anyone wearing chaps, but they look so damn gay to me. I should try and get over it because to each his own, but I wouldn't get caught dead with a pair of chaps on, so there!
Hog gaiters are very well made and work well ,quick on and off easy to pack in the bags, keep legs warm and dry. and A old fat guy like me looks silly in assless chaps

How do they keep you dry when they cover maybe your calf? I use gaiters for hunting and hiking because the idea is if the water doesn't rise above the gaiter your feet stay dry. But in a hard rain (wetness above the gaiter) they don't do ****, you're getting wet, and the water trickles right down into your boots.
I suppose if you find yourself driving through a mid calf puddle they will work. These look like another ridiculous thing people will wear to get a certain look.
