Hey guys NG here, just bought a 2012 RK & have been looking at the usual additions i.e. backrests, pipes ect. Been scouring the web & ended up on ebay, saw some pretty good prices on backrests marked NIB & started thinking too good to be true. I know there have been counterfeit shirts, trinkets ect. but how about actual stuff you'd put on your bike ?
I'm active in the black rifle community. About once a week some guy puts an ACOG up for sale and is immediately contacted by someone in Hong Kong wanting to buy it, so they can produce knock offs to go straight up on Ebay.
Its BAD in the gun community, every quality optic and mount (Weaver, LaRue, etc...) has a dozen Chinese knockoffs out there on Ebay, Gunbroker, etc....
I can only imagine that its EVERY bit as bad for the motorcycle community....
You may be confusing counterfeit parts with aftermarket parts. An brand new Evo clone motor from S&S, Ultima, or Patrick's isn't technically a Harley motor but they're not counterfeit either, they're aftermarket.
If you're worried you may inadvertently purchase what you think is a genuine Harley Davidson part but its a fake don't worry. There's not enough money in it for someone to copy the part, the markings, and the packaging. People counterfeit products that are either very expensive like aircraft and helicopter parts or products they can move thousands of out on the street like handbags.

I have five of them. Great guns! But I never really got into the forum thing like I have with Harleys and Mustangs.
Yes, there are imitation H-D parts out there. Sucks, but what are ya gonna do? If it is popular, it will be duplicated. You should do an Ebay search for Saleen... there are usually around 60 or so pages of parts, much more than half are faked.
