Then dont.

With HD gear, you can spend the same amount of money and get something of dramatically better quality, or you can get the same quality for about 1/3 to 1/2 less. About the only gear they have which is priced about where it belongs are the boots - which, if you go to Red Wing or Wolverine, you can get without the HD logos for less....

Go to something other than and HD store and do some looking around. You'll find some excellent leathers and textiles from a wide variety of manufacturers which are of far better quality than the HD stuff, and have other very valuable things like armor, removable liners, and actual waterproofing.

Like many others, I have a few jackets in the closet. However none of them are Harley jackets, just Pakistan stuff from the local leather shop and on line. All were purchased at a half way decent price. I’m just not a big fan of buying any type of Harley gear, typically seems to be overpriced. But if you feel it is a nice jacket and can afford it go for it, your cash.

That said, I don’t mind paying a few bucks for good quality stuff. There were a couple of threads I read yesterday that suggested some leather shops. One that caught my eye is Langlitz Leathers. They appear to be a small quality type company. My point is this; if you are going to shell out a few bucks why not go with a company like them. Next time around I think I’ll go with them, looks promising. From what I read they mainly use goatskin leather, which seems like the way to go. Check it out.

I bought a Harley jacket just the other day. It is excellent overall quality. While I was there I looked at your jacket. It looks great. I got one size bigger than I would normally get for an out and about jacket. I like to have the extra room for layers and a tad more room in the sleeves to reach the handlebars.

A properly constructed motorcycle jacket has longer sleeves which take into account the need to have your arms extended. In addition, it will be designed to be comfortable to wear while riding, not while standing around at the bar. This means, it will be longer in the back than the front, have pre-curved and rotated sleeves, and designed in such a way that it does not bunch or bind in the elbows and shoulders while in the riding position.

As far as the one size bigger thing, protective gear should fit like a second skin. The looser it is, the more it can move.

Your skin - do as you wish.

For just a little bit more you can get a nice, made in the USA Fox Creek jacket - less if you find one that fits you on their sale or Clearance page.

I am a fan of what fits the best. That is all that matters.

Generally speaking anything with the Harley name on is good. My wife has had good results with their stuff.

Honestly most of the HD jackets are thin leather and like fashion jackets. The top line stuff FXRG may be better, never seen it up close, but the regular cruiser jackets are pretty crappy jackets and way over-priced, you can really get a jacket comparable in quality for less than $100 from online retailers.

Honestly for a Harley rider it isn't necessary to have a skin tight jacket. The biggest issue with tight fitting jackets is when there is armor in it and if it's loose the armor can shift and end up hurting someone rather than helping them.

If a jacket is a traditional riding jacket with no armor a skin tight fit isn't really necessary, you just need something between you and the road. I mean it shouldn't be baggy or anything, but it doesn't have to fit like a wet-suit either. Let's be realistic, not many Harley riders can buy off the rack something that fits skin tight, most jackets don't come in pear shape.
