Sounds like you have a rub hole in a fuel line in your tank. With your fuel cap off look in the tank (dont use a lighter) and look for splashing. Those clear OEM lines have a tendency to rub the tank and leak.

I should have made myself more clear. I have the HD factory manual and the Clymer service manual. The Clymer manual has the full list of DTC's for my motorcycle (2008 Sportster) and flow charts to help isolate the cause of each code.

Very helpful.

My HD service manual does not have the codes. I believe HD has another book just for the electrical service and that probably has the codes in it.

You are probably hearing a spray of fuel in the tank. It's probably the pressure regulator relief and perfectly normal.
It is not unheard of for the fuel lines to get a hole in them. BTW, That problem will not throw a code.
