This is an age old discussion and what works for me may or maynot work for anyone else. Riding a 05 Heritage and the first and maybe the most important thing I did was remove the visor from my half helmet. It is to small to block much sun light but sure catches alot of air. Had trimed my wind shield to 17" because I like to look over it and not through it. Changed to a Mustang seat a while back that raised my position about an inch. So I decided to order new shield with a recurved top, 18.5" and 2" wider than stock. Wow, what a difference. New shield came from Clearview Shields and while I had to wait it was well worth it. They are a sponser here and give a discount and can make pretty much any size you want. Mine is so much better I cannot beleive it.
I have heard good things about Clearview shields. I had tried HD shields and the buffeting was terrible. I needed something for longer trips (overnight)
to take the pressure off my chest and let me stay in the saddle longer. I ordered a Windvest 18" X 18" Clear also with a slight curve at the top. After some riding and 4 or 5 different adjustments (up & Down) (forward and back) I found the "sweet spot" and have very little buffeting now. Strange enough, I found out that IF your headlight is not centered it will cause major buffeting on one side. Don't ask me how I know.
