First I've heard of it... Wish I'd known about it, was up in that area a couple months ago.

I had thought about taking a ride down there next spring, but you guys make it sound like a drag. Not interested in being in traffic, being held up by slow riders (possible), or holding up faster riders (more likely). I'll stick with the less popular twisties in Virginia. No T-shirt, but more fun.

The Dragon is on my To Do list. When I am there I will only worry about what is in front of me, and I will enjoy my ride. I will do it at my pace.

I had a great time there, and plan to go back. We rode the Dragon during the week, so it wasn't a big deal. On the weekend, we rode over the Cherohala and around to Maggie Valley.
But it is cool to see all the bikes, etc. on weekends. And they do throw down some decent breakfast vittles at Deal's Gap.

If you must do it,the trick to riding the Dragon is to do it on a weekday early in the morning before all the ******** who think it is their personal racetrack get there.
It is dangerous and really fuking stupid to pass someone in their lane.
The best thing to do is not go to what has become a circus and ride any of the beautiful roads that are in that area. Pick one, any one, they are all better than the Dragon.

The Dragon is over rated anyhow. I've ridden it I believe 6 times now if memory serves me correctly. Sure, it's something everyone needs to ride at least once for the T shirt, sticker, pictures and bragging rights. Everytime you ride the Dragon, you take it just a little bit faster and therein lies the danger. Not only that, but each time you ride it faster, your scraping more stuff. My last trip, which was this past summer, and the one which I swore afterwards would be my last, I scraped the underside of my primary cover right below my derby cover. I like my chrome to much to sacrafice it to some pavement. There's plenty of fun roads in that neck of the woods besides the Dragon.

What could possibly give him more rights to be somewhere? Because he served in the military? Maybe you need to look at his sig a little closer...1959-1962 The only thing that happened in that time frame was the Cuban missile crisis. Just remember, back then there was a draft and it was a very few who didn't serve, and it was usually because their health wouldn't allow it.

I don't have anything agaisnt Charlie, My problem is with what some people call azzhats who thinks that just because someone was in the military they have more right to do something than someone who was not in the military.

A crotch rocket will make it around you before you have a chance to react...even if you knew he was behind you.
