he pulled his pistol
Average gun fight they say is 3 shots, 3 seconds and with in 3 feet and a police officer hit rate is 18% according to some ex and current police officer I took a CAR class with/from back in May. If you were armed right and were ready for them is one thing if not then you are the prey. Always have to be ready no matter what. I would have stayed behind them in the first place driving like that and got their plate and called the cops and told them they were drunk.
Many times Ive pulled my gun and had it in hand on my lap, out of site ready to shoot while driving my truck. I’ve also had it in my coat pocket gripping it ready to rock. If something about someone makes me uncomfortable I will do this, what they don't see will not hurt any one if they don't intend to harm me or others. This is completely legal in Colorado. I’m not sure what you Europeans think you know about US citizens and our gun culture but you are almost always wrong.

There cannot ever be legislation along the lines you suggest. Otherwise it would always work out like this:
Let's say I shoot you for no good reason.
Your family tries to sue me, for being a douchebag who shot you for no good reason.
The Judge says "Well, how 'bout it Mr Drifter?"
I reply, "Well your Honour, he said he was going to kill me and then ran up my driveway at me looking all threatening like. I was defending my life and property".
Judge shuffles his papers and says, "Well that's it then. According to the Denny Law, we can't do anything more against you, if that's what you were doing" (and who's going to contradict me? You're dead, remember)
I grin, shake hands with the Judge and bugger off.
No. Don't think that's going to work very well.
Also not a wonderfully reliable source.
I will throw out this, from Wikipedia:

No offense but think about what you said... please.
Seriously I'm guessing you aren't familiar with Gary Kleck or Jon Lott.. or the studies I mentioned.. maybe even if you were you'd still feel the same.. again, no worries.. But for what it's worth, both men conducted long term studies to try and determine if an "armed" society created more problems than it solves. Kleck, was a professor in Florida, he was at the time a registered Democrat and member of the ACLU. The study he conducted was spurred by the state of Florida passing a concealed carry law. Kleck's prediction was it would result in a bloodbath, especially considering the existing levels crime associated with the drug trade. After just about 3 years of study, what Kleck discovered was, the private ownership of handguns.. prevented.. somewhere in the ball park of 250,000 crimes from ever being committed.. They studied police records, the FBI's uniform crime reports, they interviewed both private citizens and convicted criminals and so on.. the end result of Florida's concealed carry law resulted in a reduction of violent crime.. not an increase. Jon Lott was a criminology professor out of Chicago, he conducted a similar study four years after Kleck's and without going through it all, came to the same conclusions. There are currently, I believe 40 states now with concealed carry laws. In all but one case, the rate of violent crime has gone done with the introduction of concealed carry laws. The bottom line here is.. the facts are what they are.. and most certainly, you don't have to take my word for it. The information is all online and can be verified through the FBI's uniform crime reports as well as crime statistics from the CDC. If you don't buy it.. not a problem.. As for me.. as I stated in my first post, I've been down that road so I have some rather strong and rather bias opinions on the matter of concealed carry and the right to bear arms.. Like I said bro.. we all get to choose.. I respect your thoughts.. I disagree but hey, I still respect them.. In the OP's case.. once again, I think he did the right thing. He was not in a position do much except "escape and evade".. I forget who said it but.. he was totally defense and pushing the fight, I'm guessing wouldn't have gone very well.. back to that.. there are no guarantees in life..
With all that said.. my choice is to be armed.. all the time.. I'm walking proof that.. in at least one instance.. Lott and Kleck got it right..
Cheers and ride safe
