Oh the woes of sneaking around, I remember it well, when I came home from the navy on leave I rode my sporty, which they knew I had bought when I turned 18 in norfolk, anyway after a day or two i was chatting with my mother in the kitchen and she said something like your lucky your Dad didn't know you had that little harley when you were 16, it was a 125cc, he would have really been upset..I sort of grined and thought, wow she knew and never told Dad or said squat to me, Later over a beer or two out front on the porch my Dad said you know Son, if your Mom knew you had tha bike when you was 16 she would have had a fit..I almost dropped my beer, but regained my control and after a minute or two of all quite I asked my Father---Dad, did you and Mom talk much when I was 16?? here I thought I was so cool..Hell tell them, they probably already know anyway..
I am 36, my parents and my wife didn't want me to get a motorcycle, I understood their concerns and make me feel great to know that they care, but I am responsible, I provide for my family, and have never went to my parents for money to pay my bills.
So to sum it up I love my wife, kids, parents, sister and anyone else that has concerns about me riding but it doesn't change the fact that I was born to ride and that is that..........period. I understand the dangers and do everything in my being to a more alert and cautious rider.
Be honest and up front with you parents man, they will respect you for it.
not having my parents know that I have a Harley. Every time I need to over there it seems that Scootergrrl has the car. I won't ride the Harley to their house as a method of avoiding this issue with them. I know how incredibly codependent and sick this is, but I would rather not deal with their ridiculous bs regarding this matter. This has been happening more and more as my sister had this beautiful baby as where before I rarely went to their house. I know I need to just get honest and let them know, but then they wanna know where I got the money...And on and on and on...Any suggestions of how to do this. I have been historically very bad with situations such as this...Thanks.[&:]
First I would break the news to them that you are a flaming homosexual, and have been keeping it inside since childhood.....
Assuming you are not really gay, tell them you were just kidding................ Then tell them you bought a Harley, and that may be easier for them to accept.
Just remember, you can only pull this one off once in life.
The problem is you borrowed the money for something else. That could be an issue. If they are cool, I'm sure the matter will be resolved. I did crap like that a few times in my life. I worked for my parents back in the mid 80's. I bought a Rolex and always hid it from them.lol. Currently, I'm saving up to pay for my daughter's wedding. I bought the bike and everyone in my family lost it for a few then adapted. It just is better to be honest and you feel much better.
No reason not to tell them. My mom was dead set against me ever getting one, but when she started in on the 'safe' stuff I just went to the absurd. Told her that I'd been in 4 wrecks and was actually dead. But learned how to dial the phone in my non-corporeal form. Everytime she got into it, another bizarre story.

no one has said this yet but... GROW SOME COJONES!!! J/K!!! my mom and my late dad both absolutely despised motorcucles, and would not accept any of their offspring to get one. never had any trouble keeping the 2 beaters from way back when secret, but i knew she would find out about my harley. sooo, at her most recent birthday gathering, i just took a deep breath and told her. her reaction? she said "i hope you have a $100,000 insurance policy and i'm the beneficiary". she accepts it and that's that. didn't think it would be so easy.

Here is a suggestion: Reach down, and do a nut check. If you find man sized nuggets, that means your a grown up, and you can own what you WANT to own. What are they gonna do....ground you to your room? Where you got the money? You can either further fan the flames by saying "Nunya bidness", OR you can blow smoke by saying "I was raised to be financially savvy". Your choice.
