I have the ME880's on my Yammy. They have great grip. Braking is another issue altogether. They are a little bit harder to get more mileage out of them. I have around 7K on mine and it is ready to be replaced. Could get a few more out of it. But I agree that you were in a panic stop and most likely had a heavy foot.
So you are saying the front tire locks up "at the drop of a hat" quick.
That how you stop fast...front brake.
Of course any rear will lock and slide. Sometimes it is hard to modulate a rear brake pedal with heavy boots. One in a panic just stomps, locks and slides.
Metzlers wear well and are good in the rain. Yet there are many other tires that stick better, they just wear out faster. It's only money.
Front brake use to stop fast is your answer. Grap the front so hard the rear tire lifts!

lock up a rear tire (any) and it will slice 60%front 40%bacl. ,my friend you need to look at your riding habits if you were where you were supposed to be you could of stopped without the panic esp behind a friggin truck not tires its you
I was all over the place trying to stop. That damn ME880 would lock up at the drop of the hat. I wound up stopped about 2" from his bumper.
Anyone want to buy a tire cheap. Only a couple of thousand miles on it.
The only time I use the rear brake is at a stop or slow
maneuvering in parking lots etc. The front's have a bigger
rotor and some are twin rotors, that's where your braking
power comes from. You need to modify your riding habits.
One of the biggest problems in emergency stopping among
bike riders is they're programed to stomp the brake pedal
like they do in a car in a panic. That won't work on a bike,
you need to practice using the front, so that when panic
hits, you grab the right one.
