Rode the Kyle Petty ride today that left the Charlotte Speedway area and rode to Swannanoa NC . Rider went down on I-85, one in Shelby NC, and several in the mountains between Bat Cave NC and Black Mountain NC. Looked like maybe a broken leg on one rider. The ones in the mountains may have been caused by riders in front of them stopping suddenly around a blind curve. Other than that, it was a great ride for a great cause, the Victory Junction Gang Camp for children. Kyle was awesome ! Brad Daugherty was there as well riding a sweet S/E Road glide and he can ride !
Just a word here, if you are planning a group ride, please make sure you can safely ride in the group or get your butt to the rear of the pack. If you are not experienced riding the mountains, don't let your first experience be toward the front of 4-500 riders. The folks who went down in the mountains appeared to be good riders with lots of experience. Just no way to see around a blind corner.
A big reason I don't ride in big groups. You can't control other peoples mistakes, that can affect you.
Yeah, hate to pile on, but me too. Used to do the Toy Ride here which was huge, but every year some idiots went down and took others with them. Now I only ride with people I know.
