Default What would you do...?

HERE IS MY SITUATION:
I can't afford to do both so if you had to choose one what would it be. Today I have a stock Street Glide...

A. Buy & change to stretched gas tank, stretched saddlebags & stretched rear fender then paint those parts the same color that my stock bike is today.

-OR-

B. Leave all stock parts on and spend money on a custom paint job

I'm thinking if I get the parts I can always do a custom paint job down the road...but it could be years away.
But if I get the paint job...I could NEVER get the parts because the paint job is a one time deal for sure.

Thankx for you suggestions.

I may be reading this wrong but are the only stock items left the fairing and front fender? If so, I would buy the parts you can and save up for the custom paint job on all parts. If you already have the desire to stretch your existing tin, you will not be happy if you settle for less. My opinion.

If I liked the color of my bike,I would go with bags, fender, and tank. If the paint has defects,or I didn't care for it I would go with a custom paint job.

Not sure why the paint job would be a one time thing. There are plenty of painters out there. If the cost is an issue then shop around. You would be amazed how much mark up there is in the custom paint industry.

If ya want the parts buy the parts.

Take a long look at your bike, a longer look at your finances and then you should be able to make the call yourself.

Parts first, paint second.

Now, having said that i have to agree with the above mentioned. There are alot of custom painters out there that can get you a good custom paint job for not alot of money. Look into some local guys. alot of guys that work paint at repair shops ect have a hobby that they do on the side as well. Just something to look into. Thats who did mine. A guy at a local shop shot me some test pannels and i gladly paid 900 for my paint half at the start of the job and the rest once it was done. And i could be happier.

Good luck on the mods!!!

Leave the bike as is and spend the money on strippers and beer.

Neither--Stretched stuff looks dopey & "trendy", and you can't beat Harley's paint. Put the money into engine upgrades & cheap women.

This is just my opinion but, since you asked.....

I think any money spent on a custom paint job is money down the drain when you go to sell the bike. You idea of custom is just that, "yours". Sure some will like it, but, just as many will not and a custom paint job will limit your number of buyers.

That being said, I think that the trend of stretched tanks and bags is a fad. Kind of like the big fat rear tire that has all but pretty much died out.

I know its cool to be hip and in style and I think the Street Glides with the 20- something inch front wheel, stretched tank and bags looks really cool but in time this fad will die out but probably not as fast as custom paint schemes.

I know you said nothing about wanting to sell/trade your bike, but, the likelihood of it happening is more than likely to happen. In my opinion a bike with a factory stock paint job and sheet metal will have more resale in the future than a custom fabricated or custom painted bike.

Custom paint jobs have been around as long as people have been in love with motor powered vehicles (i.e. cars, truck, bikes). And it always will. Just look at how long "Flames" have been around. However, I do agree that any true custom work will limit your resale potential.

If you want the stretched look then you should definitely buy parts first. That is a no brainer for sure. Then if you still want the custom work well there you go.

I don't care for the stretched look either so I'd do the custom paint job.
