Allstate Insurance helping raise awareness for riders
I switched to allstate yesterday (before I found this article) because foremost sucks. They jacked my rates up because I financed my new bike (credit inquiry, duh) and because 35 years of unblemished credit history was deemed to short of a period of time, which they said meant I was at risk of filing a claim. I got full coverage on two Harleys for less than foremost charged for one, and better coverage to boot.
Anyway, I think it's awesome that allstate is helping to raise awareness for riders.
Coincidentally enough I am working with All State agent right now on switching all my auto, bike, and homeowners insurance to them.
Do you have any advice as far as anything to watch out for in the bike coverage? When I got my bike last year I went with Progressive purely (and I'm not proud of this) because they turned around the app instantly online. I didn't put a bunch of thought into it.
This time I am and want to make sure I'm not missing something obvious that could come back to bite me. These are the limits I am considering:
Bodily Injury** * $250,000/$500,000
Guest Liability * $250,000/$500,000
Property Damage * $50,000
Uninsured Motorist Bodily Injury *$250,000/$500,000
Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury *$250,000/$500,000
Basic Pedestrian Benefit * $5,000
Collision * $500 deductible
Comprehensive * $500 deductible
Towing and Labor * $50/occurrence
Optional Equipment * $5,000
In PA, bike insurance automatically gets a "Full Tort" status so you're not limited in recovering for losses.
I'm trying to see if I can lower the UM and UIM so it stacks with my cars, but haven't heard back yet if that is possible.
Allstate took 100% liability on behalf of their insured.
Four months later:
They haven't paid any of the medical.
They haven't paid the full repair costs.
They haven't paid supplemental costs.
They refused a rental.
I have had to file a lawsuit against their insured to recover my losses because Allstate is so hideous to deal with.
Allstate tried to hit me with a "contributory negligence" because I rode an "inherently unsafe" form of transportation.
Allstate accused me of inflating damages because their insured only suffered minor damage, but the bike was hit for almost $6000.00.
Allstate accused me of inflating my medical costs because their insured only had minor damage. The agent said that if I was in a car, I would not have gotten hurt, so they shouldn't be responsible.
Good luck with that anti-motorcycle company.

Of course, if you'd been at home in bed, you wouldn't have gotten hurt either. Is that their standard of measure?

It made me wonder... How long had Allstate been gouging me simply because I was loyal?
I will never own Allstate insurance ever again as a matter of principle. I hope they go out of business. I was a little worried about customer service with Geico, since it was so much cheaper. But, I had to file a couple of claims with them (3 teenagers... duh) and in each case, I was treated incredibly well and fairly. So far, I am very happy with the switch.
I use Progressive for my motorcycle insurance, because they are cheaper than even Geico. I've never had to file a claim with them (knocks on wood), so I do not know how good their customer service is. I may switch everything to Geico (including home) this year though, since I have had such a good experience with them.
