I just received a new Vega full face helmet. I have never owned one before. It fits real good once I get it on, but man is it a chore to get on! It about tears my ears off! It also squeezes my face so hard that if I open my mouth my cheeks go between my teeth! Is this the way these things work? It fits the top of my head really good though, like it is part of my head. I know this probably sounds like a joke, but it isn't. Should I get a bigger size?

sounds like you may have ordered it online? If so do they have a return policy? Is it a flip up style or true full face? Did you measure your head and buy according to their recommendations and it feels tight or did you make a guess at it? Full face helmets usually fit tighter in the cheeks than flip up types. Yours sounds excessive unless you have cheeks like a chipmunk.
To put on a full face helmet without tearing off your ears, place the opening on the back of your skull and pull down and forward. Much easier on the ears.
It should fit snug enough that your skin moves when you lift the helmet up and down, but you should not feel pressure anywhere. The sides should be snug enough that it is a chore to slide on a pair of glasses, but there should be plenty of room for your ears. The helmet should be comfortable. If it's not, it's either too small or simply a model you should not wear.
It should be snug. The cheek pads will loosen up over time.
^^ This. After some use the cheek pads will compress and it won't squish your cheeks as much. It should be snug all around but not to the point where is is uncomfortable.

Yup, and as you pull it on, pull slightly outward on the straps which will help the cheek pads clear your ears. It should be snug at first.

I just bought one of these. For a Shoei, it's a great price. Matter of fact, it's the best price I could find- by a long shot. I got mine for $172, and then they went up to $191. It's much better in the cold than my half helmet. No more wind getting past my goggles.
