Get one that makes you soar with the eagles, you don't want to scratch with the turkeys......

A lot of touring bikes get switched to different models. I have several friends that have built up Street Glides into Ultra Classics and others that made their UC into a Street Glide as well. Pretty much the same bike only with different bells & whistles.

Don't forget, the Softails have the 96B engine vs. the 96A engine in the other big twins. The difference is the "A" engines are rubber mounted and the "B" engines have balanbce shafts built in, so they are rigid mounted to the frame. Not and easy switch to pull off. I mean, not like changing forks or headlights....

i dont think the op is really all that concerned with the title, but the actual bike itself. to answer your question, yes, you can change all the parts which make that model into something else.
Exactly. And, sort of philosophically, when does that STreet Bob stop being a street bob and is something else? What makes a SB a SB? If you put a rear stop light and a full fender on an Iron 883, is it no longer an Iron 883? Just a fun question to ponder where the grey lines are that really separate models in the same line...

With enough determination....I have seen a Shovelhead in a Cushman.

Easier back in the day to turn one bike into another. Saw many a FX turned into an FL. Just change the tins. Very easy & cheap at the time. I bought a set of mint blue tins (tank & 2 fenders) for my '77 Sporty back in 1980 for $25. Nowadays you could not turn a SuperGlide into an Electra Glide.
