There are some people out there that hate Harleys for no good reason, or just because they don't have one. I had a guy get in my face the second time I rode my bike and for no reason. I was pumping gas in my bike but I could just as easily douched him if he had started anything.
The profit margin is probably better on the Honda he was showing you than the Harley you were looking at.
I have a '96 Dyna FXDS and I am perfectly happy and confident in it. It stops just fine for me. With my OL on it, she is constantly pushing herself off of my back (am I stopping fast on purpose, Dr. Freud?). I have ridden Honda's (CD360, 550, 750) before I got my Dyna and it just feels a lot more solid under me than my old Honda. I was always scared to death to drive in the rain, but not now.

Good Luck on your shopping!
Hey bud, thanks. I'm sure I've seen you out riding. I always keep my eyes open for the FXDS's. Style.

I'm sure your right. Plus this sales guy looked like he just stepped out of a Vin Diesel movie. I'm sure he's a sport bike dude anyhow. No love for Harley from that crew.

Look at it another way > if you bought the Shadow and outgrew it in a year, he's hoping you'll be back to buy the H-D anyway. If you bought the Harley, you'd probably have it for 7-10 years. He sells 2 bikes his way.

Yeah, those sales folk are tricky.
Btw, your avatar is terrifying. Looks like my wife if I just told her I didn't clean the kitchen cuz I was too busy playing my guitar.
pretty vague statement. while it may be true race models have better brakes than a harley, i don't think it rings true across the board(ie all metric cruisers brakes are far superior to hd).
harleys brakes are fine & will do what they are intended to do just fine as long as they are maintained.
i can't recall who makes the braking components for hd, but good chance they're made in japan.

I've never bought anything from Japan that I wasn't impressed with. One other guy said they use the same brake manufacturer as ferrari and bugati. Not too shabby.

Brembo.
They are Italian, and generally acknowledged to be the best brakes on the planet.

They came stock on mine, but I'm not sure if they are standard across the line or when they began putting them on Harleys.
