Default Harley Love Affair Fading Fast

After more than 30 years of riding Harleys my love affair is fading away. I've bought and sold 13 different HD's over years and enjoyed everyone of them. Back in the day Harley shops were much different than now. They were smaller, everyone knew everyone and you could see and talk with the wrenches if time permitted. Nowdays their hidden away from sight, big clothing stores and never have any parts on hand. Labor rates are $85 to $125, battery cost $186, employees change regularly, no more beer and hamburgers--now they have "style shows". And did I mention "attitude". Boy, do they ever have one.
Ridden all of the country and had some great times but the direction HD is headed is not for me anymore. Listed my bike on the local Craigslist this week and will ride it till it's gone. Then I'll try something else--maybe an old car.

yes, the Dealerships have changed.
I doubt they will ever return to the way you remember them.
How much you asking for your Glide?

Don't know if it's for better or worse yet but if you want to be a successful business, you have to evolve. The ones that don't stay at least on the curve will not survive.

Thats why I have my SG serviced at a good Indy shop... got to know the guys... they know me and just how much I can wrench and will lend a hand when I get stuck... Dealers don't do that! We even have the odd beer and whiskey and just bs about bikes in general lol

sad to hear.... i'm a new owner and I see the snobby side of it. I used to ride a sport bike 3 years ago and harley/cruisers waved at me more then than they do now on my harley... sad that it has changed that much in just 3 years!! I don't get it!

I do both. i like old cars and bikes.Im not gonna tell you which direction to take but you cant let others dictate what makes you happy. Just do what you like and have fun...if it stops being fun then do something else. I am lucky to have a cool indy shop close eneough to me. They have to charge like everyone else but they have been cool to me....and not just me but they are very fair imo with no attitude that ive seen. Tomorrow/thanksgiving they will have a get together for anyone wanting to show up. Good luck with whatever you do.

So is it after-sale support, or your sled in itself?

I don't need hamburgers nor beer, nor do I need the tool at the dealer to know my name. If your getting poor service that's one thing, but it sounds like your just bitchin'.

This sounds like the way my dealership is. Maybe you should move to a smaller town where the dealerships arent so big.
