Gerbing controller mount?
I just ordered a Gerbing jacket liner for our brutal California winters. My question is where do you guys put the dual controler. I am thinking about fabbing a mount at the base of the tank so the ***** are accessible. I work in a different climate than i live in. It will be 20 at home and 50 at work so the ***** need to be accessible. This is on a 07 FXST. Thoughts appreciated and criticism allowed. Thanks.
Gerbing makes a panel mount set up that you can put on your console. Just have to drill a few holes and run the wires
I have the portable controller and have a velcro strap that goes around my thigh that the little leather controller case clips to. It make the ***** easily accessible. A lot easier than trying to reach it on your waist and adjusting blind.

I have been using this mount for a couple of years, and it works pretty well..The ***** are out in front so that you can access it. We also just sent out a panel to another forum member that straps around your thigh..Just waiting for him to let us know how it is going to work..

The connector from the controller to the jacket and from controller to power cord should be long enough for that style of tank mount.
I suggest you get a dual controller in case you want to add garments later like gloves or over pants. Be sure the engine is running before you turn on the heated gear and try to remember to turn off the gear before shutting the bike down. It puts a strain on the electrical system otherwise, (heating gear on and starter motor engaging).
I've used Gerbing gear for the past two years and I clip the controller to the top of my chaps, belt of my pants or the pocket of my over pants. It's easily accessible there though sometimes I need to lean slightly to right when it's clipped to the top of my chaps. When I clip it to the top of the leg of the chaps, no problem. But may look like I'm playing with my crotch. There are no markings on the controller so there's no need to look at it when adjusting the temperature. And so I usually turn the **** all the way one direction or the other so I can feel where I'm placing the **** in it's relative arc.
The connectors don't release when you get off the bike, you'll realize you're tethered when you forget to unplug at the gas station! The garment connector is a box on the inside of the jacket, low on the left side and the cable from the controller plugs into this box, (over pants plug into the box as well, gloves plug into the jacket sleeves). I would think that keeping the controller with you and just unplugging the controller from the power cord would me easier than reaching up under your jackets to unplug the jacket from the controller when the controller is mounted to the bike. But that's just my opinion and I've never mounted the controller to the bike. I have had the controller slip off my chaps while going down the hiway. It just hung there because the connectors are good and tight and when I noticed it I just pulled it up and stuffed it into my jacket pocket.
You just need to wear a long sleeved shirt under the jacket liner. The jacket will heat up and warm you so it would not be effective if worn over a sweater or sweatshirt.

I just velcro mine to the tank panel.

If anyone hasn't actually bought a controller yet - the FG wireless is actually cheaper than the Gerbing wired one. I do wonder a little about the syncing process though, could be bad if the thing disconnects like some of those stupid bluetooth headsets I've head.
I have the case for the controller and slip it in the leather panel between the seat and the instrument panel. It seems to work OK but not sure if it scratches underneath the tank with the vibrations of the engine. I like the idea of attaching it to my chaps, will try that.
