replace it all, put it up on a bike lift, build a glass case around it, and never ride it again..

I would replace the pitted parts myself,re-chroming can be more than the price of replacing,more work to redo !

Facing a like situation I went "none of the above".

My Sportie is year-round in snow, rock salt and lots of other nasties and sometimes I have to admit to putting her away wet. The chrome wasn't much when I got the bike so at first I just did a major polish a couple times a year. Then it got to the point where it just flat-out bothered me; especially the front crash bars. So I had them powdercoated black. Look freaking nice and make the bike actually look smaller - sort of blend into the frame. After a couple years I had the rear saddlebag racks, lights and frames and front turn signals powdercoated as well. Don't care for the turn signal looks as much but I like how the rest of the rear came out.

Wow! Yea! that's my plan . . . how'd you know? It will be a garage queen without compare! Perfect Chrome and Flat Spotted Tires here I come!

I personally would just ride it like it is. If it is going to make you crazy you better go new so you can inspect them before you buy them.

i would leave most of it alone my self. best deal is buy good used..rechroming isn't going to be as good as factory,and will cost more then new..

Find a good shop and price what it would cost to get the parts re-chromed. Also look at the chrome exchange prices. You have the new prices for replacement. I have seen good chrome work come out of small shops that is reasonable with good quality. I have no gripes about HD's chrome. Never used a chrome exchange dealer. Your decision needs to be made on cost and quality where you are located.
