I've decided that since I won't be using my Softail for any more long distance endurance competition that I'd go ahead and put the belt drive back on it.
Went to the local H-D shop to price a new belt (cut the old one off when I went to a chain drive) and I about fell over when they quoted me a price of $215.00 for a belt so...........I went on Craigs list where I had seen one about a week ago for $20.00.
The guy didn't know what it fit but it was in never used condition and I figured what the hell, it might fit and for $20.00 I was willing to take the chance.
He had dropped his price to $10.00 and I went to his house (2 miles from me) and bought it, got it home and it's was the correct width so I counted the teeth. Mine takes a 135 tooth and the one I bought for $10.00 is 135 teeth!!
nice score. if one tried hard enough, i bet one could make a nice Harley buy just buying all the parts off craigslist. probably cost 1/2 as much as buying the parts from some book
