This has been somewhat common for me...I'm wondering if others experience it and if so how they respond.
In casual friendly conversation...sometimes with people I know, sometimes with those I don't...when mentioning that I ride a motorcycle, it will evoke a story about someone they know who was killed or injured in a motorcycle accident. For a long time I just ignored it. But more and more its annoyed me and I've had call out the rude and insensitive nature of their comments. Even then, some don't understand why that would be annoying.
Yep it's annoying. What's even more annoying is the attitude that everybody that rides will eventually die or be seriously injured because of it.
My buddy's wife is one of these annoying people. My buddy finally got the wife's approval (I know, I know...) to get a motorcycle. Then she changes her mind because her sister's friend's dad died on a bike. So now motorcycles are unsafe. Meanwhile she hauls around her 4 kids all winter long in a conversion van with bald tires, the whole time driving like she's the second coming of Danica Patrick.
On a side note, she has also called me Satan, because I am always tempting her husband to buy or do fun things.
So....live to be 100. Of course, you will have constant aches and pains, lose all your teeth, hair, and control of your bodily functions. You will only eat soft food and will have spent all your retirement funds 20 years ago.
It's always sad to hear stories about our friends and fellow riders getting injured/seriously hurt on their bikes but it comes with the territory. Ryd Safe.
