I think those guys carpet their bikes for stunts. The bikes get all beat up anyway, so they carpet them. Maybe it helps them stand on the tank. Butt ugly, but it works.
Had one in tiger print at a patriot Guard ride and curiousity got the best of me. So I asked the owner WHY? I was told that because of his tendencies to wreck, it got too expensive to replace all of that plastic. The faux fur being glued down keeps the plastic from fragmenting into tiny pieces. I had to laugh!!
