Default Knee Pain

Why do my knees ache so bad after a long ride? I do "white collar" work during the week, so I wear very light shoes typically. I wear boots when I ride, so I'm guessing the extra weight could be the cause?

Are highway pegs going to help? I intend to purchase next week.

I think the highway pegs will help. I can stretch my legs out on the pegs and it's nice to have that option for added comfort.

Well you are straddling 700 pounds. Kind of like a blue collar work out on white collar knees ...lol..same here. It's not so much the ride itself it's the getting her out the garage, red lights, on and off her....that kinda stuff.

I appreciate the response. I've been assuming that it has got to be helpful to have the pegs.

Pegs will help you out..It is nice to be able to move your feet around..I also stop every 100 miles to stretch and gas up on a long trip..

My opinion's that it's not the weight of your boots, it's the riding position you're in. I put highway pegs on my bike as soon as I bought it because I like to lean back and take it all in and it's nice to have the ability to change my riding position if I'm going to be riding all day. I mean, if I know I'm going on a long haul and won't be stopping until my low fuel light comes on, I definitely need the option of changing positions from time to time. I think hwy pegs will make your knees happier! Just my opinion.

I agree with whoever mentioned that I'm getting a "blue collar workout". To be honest, pushing this bike around is the most work I usually do in a week. That sounds kind of pathetic, but when you're sitting in front of a computer for the majority of your time, moving a bike around, especially such a heavy one, can be a lot of tension on the legs. I suppose if I would just ride more often, I'd build a little more muscle mass and this problem should go away on its own.

My wife has the same problem her doctor said it was from being in the same position for an extended period which is cauging the joint to not be properly lubricated. He recommened taking "joint fuel" or shark cartilidge. She has found that adjusting the position of her legs helps alot she will also walk whenever we do fuel or drink stops. The highway pegs should help.

Don't know about your age or physical shape, but I'm probably like a lot of riders on here. In my 40's, with bad knees (I've had surgery on both) and riding doesn't particularly make my knees sore, but having a few different positions for them makes a huge difference. I often move my feet around on the footboards, and the pegs quite a bit.

Another thing that I did that made another big difference, was add the footboard extensions. That moved the footboards out about 3/4" on each side, and for a tall guy, that seems to be a much more comfortable postition. A vendor on here makes and sells them, and they are pretty damn good quality.
