Nothing wrong w/a Sporty, and no one should get an inferiority complex. If I was not so big and fat I'da considered it. They are light, nimble, and cheap enough to really tear apart and modify.
I am constantly barraged with, "oh a Sporty" and "only an 883". Seems these comments are made by folks who have Ego problems. The only thing the Sporty can't do is satisfy their Ego. When I hear someone say "I'm gonna Upgrade to a __________ from the Sporty" I know right then they are upgrading to Ego satisfaction. When I hear people say, "gonna get a Sporty to learn on", I think , "well if ya learn on a Sporty, ya can ride anything" becasue I know the weight and seat height make the Sporty more difficult for the beginner. I have heard them all, sometimes it pisses me off, other times I pay it no attention. Riding a Sportster is one of them "If I have to explain, you wouldn't understand".

Southpaw Super Glide: A Left-Hand-Drive 1979 Harley FXE Built to Fit the Rider
I rode an 883 Sporty for about 3 years until I recently traded it in on My FXSTI. Being a Sportster rider, It felt like I was cheating on my wife when I traded it in on a softail. I still miss it.But there are some people out there that dont see a sportster as an equal. Like some other people said most of the time its an ego thing. Even though I dont own a sportster anymore...they will always catch my eye.
Cant understand why anyone would rag somebody else on what they ride. Its their money and bike and if it makes them happy so be it.They would be welcome to ride with me anytime.
