My soft tail is approximately 845 lbs wet. You need a trailer of at least 2000 lbs axle load for two bikes at least I would believe. I haul two HD's in an enclosed 12x6 trailer staggered with eight tie downs per bike in a wheel chock. Floor anchors are frame mounted fold downs. Wheel chocks are removable. I secure each bike so that it can move a little on it's own suspension while still being secure. The kick stands are up with the bikes in neutral. The straps are secured and manually tied so nothing can slack off or drop loose. I use soft ties and attach to chrome and not paint.

If you decide to use an exposed trailer. DO NOT use a bike cover on each bike and make sure the straps are secure. The wind will cause the starps and covers to beat the paint to death. Just make sure the straps don't fly around in the wind. I have had both a 6X12 and a 7X14 enclosed trailers. The 7X14 will haul an Ultra and a Heritage staggered.
Someone mentioned "Eye Bolts". If that is the way you go use only Forged Shoulder Bolts. They are 5 or 6 bucks apiece but will not open up with a weight shift. Do Not use a standard eye bolt from a lowes or home depot.
thanks..I have trailered before, just never this distance and always in my small enclosed trailer..just a friend going along this time!
I am more worried about road debris daminging one of the bikes!
I used a 5x8 recently to transport 2 bikes at once... but they were both Sportsters, and it was as snug as I'd dare go. If you had bigger bikes, you'd need a bigger trailer in my opinion,
