Sounds like the old guy thought it was a cop. In Missouri, you have to, by law, pull over for emergency vehicles. I'm thinking this is what the old guy was doing.

No matter how you dice it, the gal in the silver car caused all of this. So sad.

Every one is assuming it was a headlight modulator...not necessarily so...I have been on many rides that have "escort bikes"...like they have for funeral possessions...that appear to be cop bikes at first glance.

It's unfortunate that something designed to keep us safer is the initial cause of something so tragic. Wishing the best for all involved

I think the story mentioned "blinking light".

Prayers sent to all involved. I have always thought that Headlight modulators were a bad idea. Flashing lights just confuse most people. Lots of folks think that you are giving right of way by flashing your lights. Sad.

This wasn't luck. This was confusion caused by flashing lights, a mixed group of riders, and timing. I would not ride with this group till things were honestly investigated and cause/ effect satisfied. Something is wrong. Somethings multiple risk and some reduce risk. Sad event with prayers for the injured.

I, also, am no fan of the flashing headlight, but....

The first car does not need to explain why he slowed down. It is his right, for whatever reason. Assuming he thought it was a cop, and was correct, would the cops lights then be the cause of the accident? Hardly.

Driver inattention on the second vehicle is the cause, pure and simple, be it following too close, too fast for conditions, texting, talking, inexperience, or whatever.....

Just sayin....

I would have to say that the girl driving the silver avenger who wasn't paying attention and rear ended the first car was at fault.. following to close and not paying attention was the cause.
