Hi,
I want to buy a bike I found on the classifed section of this site.
I bought my 2nd bike from this site but it was only a hundred miles or so from me so I was able to meet with the guy so it wasn't a problem.
I've also bought and sold parts on this site and I've never, ever had a problem.
I'm sure this is an age old problem to anyone who buys from a private seller on ebay or any other site where the bike needs to be shipped.
I spoke to the guy today and he seems like a great guy and even told me where I can find him on a university site as he's employed there.
I've never worried about the smallish transactions I've done but this is around 10k.
Will shipping companies act as middlemen? (just thinking out loud)
Would appreciate suggestions on how I can handle this with as much piece of mind as possible.
My gut tells me not to worry, but......
Thanks,
Steve
We found my GF's bike here last March. Rode to Kalifornia to get it. Nice four day trip. No problems, bike as advertized and smooth transaction even though the seller still had paper with Harley Financial.
I guess you just have to factor it all into how good the price is. If you can find the same bike local for a $1,000 more, it might not be worth the trouble of shipping.
I bought my RK Custom from a member here.
Cost $500 to ship it to NH from NC.
We exchanged many long emails, and I talked to him on the phone a few times,
until I was comfortable enough to fork over the cash.
My bank told me I was absolutely nuts to send a stranger that kind of money..haha
He also sent me many detailed pics of the bike.
It all worked out very well for me. I couldn't find a decent priced RK Custom in my area, and the price was good enough that the shipping didn't bother me.
The only thing I didn't get was the black bike I wanted, but black cherry was close enough for me.
Of course, as soon as I bought the bike, a vivid black RK Custom showed up on NH craigslist!! Dammit!
Ragtop. That's what I was talking about. I know about the cost of shipping and working with an established dealer. It's the unknown of sending cash to someone you don't know and crossing your fingers.
I've mostly been on the receiving end as I've sold a lot of parts on this site. Up to about 5 or 600 dollars and, of course, I know I'm not going to screw anybod over.
I love the bike so much that it will require a leap of faith.
I'm wondering if a known shipping co would act as a go between. Anybody heard of that?
