I could care less what some might say, chaps are worth their weight in gold when riding in cold weather & comfort is where my concern is at.
Safety is another issue and they are a big aid in keeping some layers of protection between your hide & the pavement. I've heard it said "There are two kinds of cycle riders. The ones that have gone down before and the other is those that will someday"

I wear a set of Pakistani goat skins from Barney's Leathers. $80 a set. They're pretty stout, and I like the way they fit.

just make sure you get all the long frills and put frills on your bike, and get a villiage people cd, and put a sock in your crotch because it will still freeze in there buy some leather pants for a few bucks more and you won`t look like a cup cake, and you will have full warmth, and pertection and not all those sneers when people look back at you as your A### is hangin out

An option you might check out....I wear Carhartt overalls, you can get them lined or unlined. Pretty freaking warm, and easy to take off;they have full-zippered legs. Thick, too, in case you make an unscheduled dismount.....

Wife and her friends find it extremely sexy. For some reason they find the adjustment string tie in the back really sexy when the loose ends hang down. They don't particularly like leather pants. Try wearing chaps and nothing else for your better half and see what kind of reaction you get.

Call me cupcake at least if I have an unscheduled dismount I will retain most of skin, I hope.[:@]
If you have an unplanned dismount you're very likely to slide on your *** so the chaps aren't going to be a big help.

I've only been down once.. slid mostly on my left side.. mostly. Bike was totaled and I walked away with a slight limp.
I wasn't wearing paper thin chaps either, thank goodness. The set I had were thick and they saved me.
