Default Shell and Conoco Fuel and ethanol

Have a friend here in Abilene, TX who owns a motorcycle shop. He shared the other day that a customer of his, who says he is with Shell Oil Co., told him that Shell's low octane fuel contains 10% ethanol, the mid-grade has 5% and the higher octane or V-Power has none. Does anyone know anything about this? My Ultra seems to do well on the V-Power (91 octane where I live) Also, I use Conoco fuel and their pumps do not have the sticker indicating that there is ethanol in the fuel. (pretty sure that sticker is a requirement if the fuel has ethanol)

I've seen that at "some" Shell stations. But not all. It will say so on the pumps. In 8,000 miles, my bike has only had one tank of 10% Ethanol ran thru it. It didn't like it. I'm lucky that I have two stations within a mile of my house that both sell plain gasoline.

Again, I've seen Conoco stations that did have Ethanol in their gas. But not all of them. And yes, it is required that they have it posted on the pumps.

Makes no sense at all. Ethanols octane is over 100 so the more in the gasoline the higher the octane not lower. If that was what he is referring to. Using ethanol to lower the octane that is.

Many years ago the lawmakers here in MI decided it was in the best interest NOT to label gas pumps cause it would unduly concern the citizens of MI. So most pumps in the state aren't labeled, except for the E85 pumps.

For whatever reason, my bike seems to run better on fuel with ethanol.

Here most pumps serve up all 3 grades at most stations. Some have the sticker, but if some leave the hooch out of the gas on a premium level, that works for me. Hmmmm, got some homework to do...

"Ethanol has a lower energy content than gasoline. That means that about one-third more ethanol is required to travel the same distance as on gasoline. But other ethanol fuel characteristics, including a high octane rating, result in increased engine efficiency and performance. "

The only gas sold in stations here has 10% ethanol. Everything I own runs okay with it. It is a maintenance nightmare and does not store well but it beats the hell out of pushing all this stuff around on it's wheels.
