I bought the HD chopped fender kit (I got it for half the price) with the primed finish. I was wondering what prep aside from wiping it down with a tac cloth there might be. Do I need to sand? I wouldn't think so but I figured I would ask just to be sure. Thanks.
I would think so, are you painting it yourself? If not, leave the prep up to the painter.
Unless you know painting, I would leave it to the experts, it you want a quality job.
Don't get me wrong, I have seen some very nice work done by non pro's, and am in no way knocking home paint jobs. It just sounds from your question, that you don't know how to paint yourself. either way, good luck with the job
I was going to paint it myself. I think I'm an ok painter, lol. I've done a few things here and there on the bike but I've never painted something pre primed.
Just be sure to clean using a degreaser before doing any sanding. Otherwise you could be plagued with fisheye or a miriad of other adhesion problems.
+1! I'm a painter by trade and that's always your first step. For the reasons mentioned. Plus you probably won't want to use sandpaper with a grit coarser than 400 if you want top notch results. Good luck to ya.
yup, clean up the fender, sand, re-degrease it and should be able to shoot. If still worried take to a shop for advice. They will be able to take a look at it and tell you the proper steps.
Prepping is the biggest part of it. Painting is easy step as long as prepping was done correctly.
