Default Used Parts Sell Off- Daytona

Well Bruce Rossmeyers of Daytona Beach had a used Parts/Bikes sell off using an Auction Company yesterday. Always looking for a deal I went to see what was going on. They had a warehouse full of pallets of used and outdated Harley as well as metric parts. Each pallet was numbered and the auctioneer walked around to the pallets called the number, described the content and the bidding began. You had to be real careful, the auctioneer would say this is a 10times pallet, so if the final bid was $100 you would pay $1000 for the pallet (what a slimy trick if you ask me). On top of the final pallet price you paid a percentage auction fee and then the 6.5% sales tax on top, you could get into big money.
There were pallets of brand new exhaust systems, older models, take off parts of all descriptions, seats, bags, lights, grips, tires (new), bikes mostly used including one new 2012 FLHX. Just about anything you could think of from the last 10 years.
I knew some people bidding, Flee Market and EBay folks, they said the prices were way high for what was being sold but it looked like it would all be sold. EBay and the swap meets in the area (just in time for Bikeweek) will be busy I guess.
It was a neat kind of experience, bumped into a brunch of folks ! know also just out for a look.

The picture below is only a small part of what was up for Auction.

I was part of the online bidding crowd. Wasn't able to score anything though, too many dealers buying everything up. One bidder alone bought 24 of the bikes, spending more than $105,000. Have to say, most of the bikes were selling for under retail.

Yup
I looked over the bikes, these were mostly bikes that they were unable to retail or possibly hard sells. Choppers are not hot sellers around here right now, couple of metrics, again not hot market here right now.
That's just my view, I watch fairly closely here in the Daytona area, lots of great bikes for sale, some at good prices, saw 2011 48 with 200 miles on it, $8800, saw a just won 2012 XL1200 no miles, $10K.
Seen a few 2008 FLHX in the $11 to $12k range.
If your looking for a VRod a few of those around.
The market changes daily.
Coming into Bike Week everyone is way HIGH on bike prices right now, kind of like raise prices of gas on a long weekend type of selling.

True enough that there are a bunch of people that think that they will finally sell their bike this BikeWeek at some obscenely infalted price.

You can get a bike down there for a few thousand less than you can in Indiana though. Have you ever went to GreyBeards down in Mims?

GreyBeards is right in my backyard! Love stopping there to view their museum and bikes. Usually have some smoking deals too!

It's a game places play , most the real deals are done before Joe Public ever hear about it they will also " salt " some good stuff on a pallet of junk to move it so you really need to know your game . Like swap meets out here run the by the 81 , setup starts around 6am and no general public till 10 or 11 unless you want to pay for a full spot to get in . Any decent deals are already done the stuff traded piles and all the prices are marked up fixed before the small guy gets in , fuced up 8 ways from sunday if ask me . And if you do go as a seller the monkeys are trying to climb in your truck to get into your stuff they jump on you so fast , these are other sellers .

That isn't anything like Florida. The shop that Bruce shut down in Daytona Beach has been going on since before I left and pretty much everyone has already had a couple of shots at it. At his main shop Destination Daytona they put on a swap meet the 3rd Monday of every month and is just in an open parking lot so everyone has the exact same oportunity as everyone else. The early bird gets the worm, but they roll out the pallets for everyone. We've bought quite a bit off of them.

Some of the other swap meets we set up on Saturday so the vendors do trade with each other but it isn't that big of a deal. We will start setting up the swap meet for Bike Week on the 6th and it doesn't open until the 8th but I'll start looking for the stuff I need while I am helping them unload it from the trucks. There is not much club involvement that you would notice at these swap meets either. And most of the big buyers will be from Europe, I wish I spoke a couple languages.

Oh wait, you called me a monkey for jumping in the truck looking at stuff. You might be right.

Made a living for a for a couple years hustling in the KC Mo. at a big monthly swap at a old drive in movie cost $2 at the gate period nobody controlled anything . People would be coming up in the wee hours of the morning sometime while the last movie was on and getting in line to wait for the gates . Made a few deal at 4am with a flashlight & cup of hot chocolate

Had a old yellow school bus with 4 german guys made the rounds every year , they had a 2 month route around the states hitting all the major swaps they bought up & packed cargo containers full of old bikes & parts to go back with them , would fill that bus almost everytime .

Moved out here and what shock finding this rigged game .
