Getting back on topic, what do you guys who don't like vests wear instead? Is it either full jacket or shirt, no middle ground?
My options (in order of Florida heat are)
1. Moobs
2. TShirt
3. Long sleeve TShirt
4. Zip hoodie (the damn strings beat me in the face if I don't tuck em)
5. Leather
5. Leather w/ removable liner
6. Hollowed out seal
7. Warm tauntaun guts
bryanmcdan, you live in Sanford? My parents and two brother live there. Do you go to Dr. James Quinn by chance? voted best doctor in Seminole Counter eight years running.
I had told myself that I would never wear a leather vest when I started riding, as to me it seemed useless and just a thing that riders wear to appear more biker-ish along with fingerless gloves and bandannas on the head. I still don't wear bandannas or fingerless gloves but I did recently get a DENIM vest (actually it was a cheap denim jacket that I cut the sleeves off of). No patches or nothing like that. The idea came to me when riding in 50 degree weather or below. I didn't like having to layer under my leather jacket because it caused me to feel to constrained in my clothing. I especially hated how my arm would feel so restricted. After trying out several types of thin under layers I also decided that maybe one body layer OVER my jacket might be the way to go as well. I found the right combination of one light under layer, my jacket with its liner installed and finally the denim vest over the top of my leather jacket. This combination has worked perfect for me in colder weather. But that is the only time I use the vest because otherwise I don't see much use in it to just wear it over a t-shirt or anything like that.
1. when its to hot to wear a full on leather jacket [like it is here in az], it still gives me some added protection and piece of mind should some crazed cager put me on the asphalt. hmmm... t-shirt on 60 mph asphalt, or t-shirt and leather vest, hmmmm.....
2. i have a 10 pocket vest that i can carry everything a fella needs: gun, cell phone, ammo, wallet, beard brush, extra du-rag, knife, burrito for long rides.
am i a poser? the answer is on my right knuckles. [look closely]
the whole "POSER" thing bugs the hell out of me. WHO CARES what someone else thinks? seems like riding motorcycles is about freedom, freedom of choice, in life, what you say, what you wear and worrying about some goof wondering if a person is thinking their a poser or not flys in the face of the motorcycle riders "live free" code.
their are a ton of opinions on the real biker/poser issue for sure, but only ONE true answer. a REAL biker wouldnt trade or sell his/her bike for ANYTHING other than the health or life of his/hers spouse/partner or child. that person is on that bike whenever possible, whenever time and or responsabilities allow [and responsability is arguable!].
that is a TRUE biker. not what ya wear, not what ya ride, not the miles on the odometer. the love of bike and hiway, thats it!
there is NO argument on that. NONE!
ya like vests? go buy one! slam offensive up yours, outlaw, outspoken patches all over that sucker and wear it proud!! or just plain. or if it just looks fugin KEWL!!!!
RIDE ON!!

wear leather vest ....like the pockets for camera, cell, etc....don't like going from my bike to jacket pocket every time I leave the bike with things I might want away from the bike. Don't really want to carry a purse!...I guess you might say, I only care about what people think if they think I'm gay...(just kidding I don't even care about that but would hate to tote a bag of any kind around)...The vest is just practical for me. Will probably get a denim one too.
