Default Avg. Maint. down time?

Got the snortster (XL883) in for 1000 mi. service. 1st place said can't touch it for almost 2 weeks, next guy promised to start a day or two later.Pretty big difference in 2 places within 20 miles of each other,Chicagoland area.Of course I took it to the second. When I got the bike the salesman told me both shops were equally good.Last bike, a Kaw, took a while for everything, cause they also serviced jet ski's,snowmobiles, all terrain ****,and stored it all, plus boat engines, quite a line.To wait in! It's nice going to a 1 franchise place.Even 2 weeks is shorter than anything Kaw touched.

Sounds like a good business to be in. In SoCal they told me the same for my 1,000 and 5,000, but Sat is first come first serve. I went in 2 hours before they opened, and finished after lunch. Good luck.

Buy a 50 buck service manual and do it yourself. It is really easy to do.

I do my own service. You will save a ton of money and know the job's done correctly. Get a manuel or have a friend show you. You will never let them touch yoiur bike again for service. If that not your thing, I would do businesss with mechanics with a good reputation, not how fast you get your bike back.
Its hard to believe anyone would be back logged this time of year, maybe the small units Santa will bring.

Buy a manual and do it yourself, if you don't know how to work on your bike, learn, it's YOUR bike. It's really not that hard and if you run into a problem ask to talk to a mechanic when you are buying parts or oil. I have a guy at my local dealer that gave me his number and told me to call anytime. I took him out for lunch a few times for a bit of his knowlege. There are some little trick's here and there that are not in the manual.[sm=icon_cheers.gif] Don't forget [sm=icon_rtfm.gif]

I'd planned to do my own, but with two 10 hour jobs, and an hour commute I never see daylight except on weekends when it's honey do time. My stealer does me right.

I think I can do in between oil changes, but you gotta realize everybody's not blessed with mechanical abilities[sm=smiley13.gif].Last thing I tried to tackle was to adjust the headlamp on my old sled,I screwed it up so bad my lites were goin in the trees![8D] Some of us just shouldn't be around wrenches[sm=scared09.gif] I'm one!

Don't try the math. The two jobs aren't back to back, or 40 hours.

The dealer i use is great. Normally i make an appointment, never had to wait more than a couple of days for an appointment. Drop it off in the morning and it's done by lunch or when i get off work at the latest. Some times i'll drop in and ask and if they have time, if they can it's done within a couple of hours. The only thing that ever took more than a day was when they re-did the motor, they had it for 3 days if i remember.
