What a sweet Decision !
I am 33 years old and currently leaving and working in Germany - Great to find you !
Here is a question for you which keeps me buzy:
If you are already owning a Road king would you consider buying a second one ? -
Well here is my "dilemma" - currently I am the proud owner of a 05 road king custom (pretty much stock in black pearl), I am quite happy with the bike - the looks are amazing as I find it one of the sexiest cruiser on the street , But as Harleys is my addiction I am already thinking of buying a second one (most probably waiting for the 08 models)
I am considering threescenarios :
[ul][*]Having a road king classic (with windshield , backrest , hard bags etc) for the long trips and having all the benefits of a touring bike - thus using the custom around the city ? [/ul]
[ul][*]Moving to a different category and consider the Wide Glide , which I find it very cool bike but I don’t know how comfortable and functional would be for the longer trips ?
[*]Consider the Softail custom ?
[/ul]
For you - What makes more sense from the logical point of view ?
I mean I know if I start thinking logically I don’t even need a second bike but this is another topic for discussion .
Cheers ,
John
In answer to your question, I have a Wide glide and love it. Not sure if I'm going to love it as much after 6+ hours in the ride somewhere. Maybe, maybe not, haven't tested it for more than about 5 hours.
My boss has a road king and he's considering a second bike like you. He wants to get a Street Glide though for teh fairing, radio, etc.
If you're a die-hard RK fan then do just what you describe, trim one for touring and one for play. Either way, they're all good bikes. You really can't go wrong!
It's a matter of personal taste. I wouldn't want two bikes that were so similar to each other when there are so many variables in the Harley stable. I would add a Softail deluxe. I just happen to think it is the prettiest motorcycle that Harley makes.
What ever you do, enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!
And, oh yes, I'd love to have the cash to be making such a decision..
Anywho, if it was me I keep the RK. It's already a touring model. Batwing fairing and a trunk and you're ready to ride for a month! Then I'd buy a Softail Custom. Why? I like the look and ride of a softail..

On the other hand if your looking for something different, really different. Thenlook into the V-Rod as 911c2 suggested, but don't forget theSportster line for something a bit lighter and quickerto zip around those little streets that seem to be so popular in Europe.
It won't be as quick as some of the 600cc and up rice rockets, but its a lot cheaper than a Dyna, or Softail. But it still sounds like aHarley and if it isn't quick enough there are always theBuell's.
Neither the Sportster or Buell are all that goodfor distance "in my opinion", but there are a lot of ownerswho ride them muchfarther than I would consider or could handle.
The fun part is that with all the low/mid range torque they have on tap and a huge front brake rotor the Buell has it cangive a ricer fits below a 100mph.
Good Luck choosing, just wish I had your problem.

Vrods tend to be quite popular in Europe but Iam more for the classic looks (Harley and radiator ? Iam not sure they fit together) of the 70s , 80s this is why I tend to like the Wide Glide .
By the way when comparing the specs of the Wide Glide and Softail Custom , the WG seems more bulky , longer than the custom - I would say its probably because of the thicker fork legs .
What is your personal experience with both these bikes ?
How cool would that be[sm=biker.gif]
