Last Sunday some kid tried to steal the OL's bike from a Fred Meyers parking lot. Weird thing is, he was able to start it and put it in gear before it died. There were several witnesses, including an older gent who has a late model Ultra. This guy saw the kid get on the bike, says as soon as the kid stood the bike up off the kickstand the running lights started blinking like they do when the security system is activated, but then the kid started the bike ( he could hear the exhaust, and headlight came on). The gent got out of his car and walked up to the kid and asked him if he forgot to put in his security code, and that is when kid fled the scene.
I cannot get the bike to repeat to this scenario, if the fob isn't close by or the code isn't entered, the lights start flashing- no headlight, no starter engagement, etc. Just like it's supposed to work. Wondering if the kid could have had some electronic device designed to fool the security system? Anybody heard of such a thing?
I heard about some electronic devices but I am wondering that a kid did this thing. I think you need to put more security as well as cameras to record everything. I think you can use some censored devices.
I use a more advanced security system, I insert a device into the ignition switch, rotate it and it not only locks the ignition, it locks the front wheel all the way to the left.
Seriously, after I left home without the fob, it was in my other jacket pocket hanging on the garage wall, and got stuck 20 miles from home, I had the system put in service mode and the battery removed from the fob. I pay Liberty Mutual for theft protection.
They tell you not to put your fob in close proximity with your cell phone, as there may be a problem with the frequencies and signal interference. That said, I wonder if there could be the possibility of a cell phone, or a cell phone jamming device causing the system to malfunction???
Don't know about any of that....All this electronical stuff is FM to me, but I guess the possibility is out there.
If your steering isn't locked, anyone can come along and get your personal code from the speedo. it just takes about 30 seconds to get the bike going. Always lock the steering & ignition.

no, they can't. in order to get the code to display, you have to have a working fob with you. otherwise, the alarm (if installed) will start screaming. if not installed, the blinkers will blink angrily at you. but either way, the bike will not start, and you will not get the code.
to the op, don't know what up with your situation. never seen nor heard of that happening. but i suppose it's possible. they got devices to steal your credit cards info from your pocket, so i don't think that would be too much of a stretch.

My son-in-law and I were at the Easyriders Road Show in Knoxville, TN a few weeks back and someone nabbed his credit card info this same way. Hit him for $402 at an ATM in Chattanooga, TN and tried 4-5 times at an ATM in Florida the same day.
As for the starting the bike deal...Never heard of this being able to happen.
