Crazy Malfunction
A few hours later after work I go for another ride and the darn thing won't start. I can hear the fuel pump prime, it cranks but won't start (yes smart asses I had gas in the tank).
I start thinking uh-oh, something is bad, I wonder if someone has screwed with my ride (it was in a public parking lot) between lunch and quitting time.
So to make a long story short, I go out and buy a new battery, just in case I have a bum battery (it is several years old). No Dice! Plunk in the new battery and my bitch still won't start.
This morning I call my favorite dealer and tell them my trouble, they offer to come pick-up my baby and trailer her to the shop.
This afternoon the dealer tells me that it wasn't my imagination the bike cranks but won't start and that they had re-downloaded the start-up mapping. Now she starts up and purr's like the mean bitch she is
Funny thing is, the bike is several years old and was dyno'd a year ago. In other words the bike has not been hooked up to the computer for about a year so I know the start-up mapping *was* ok until a few days ago.
Bizarre, no?
Fine....they downloaded something or other, and it fixed it. Can't be happy with that?
I was just posting that I found it bizarre that the mapping would go wonky like that after all these months and wondered if anyone else has experienced something similar.
However, I do thank you for taking it upon yourself to be the ultimate dealer defender in the universe. You are doing a fine job.
Maybe it was a sun flare with extra electromagnetic forces pointed directly at your bike when it was parked.
Did your gremlin bell fall off recently (or do you even have one)?
If none of the above apply, line your helmet with tin foil.

Actually I think there is probably bug in the software that only manifests in some bizarre set of circumstances or a sensor that for some reason went wonky and sent out false positives (because it appears to have been a cold start issue).
