So, I am getting to the point of needing new tires. I do as I usually do, order online and then make an appointment at local Harley dealer. They say they usually don't put on tires unless I buy from them, but will go ahead and do it this time. I get there and talk to the very person I made the appointment with, they then refuse to do the work, due to liability. I gotta call BS on that one. So, i call the local Honda dealer and sure enough, they will do it no problem. At this point i am writing off Smokin Harley of Winston Salem. They won't get any more of my money. Its about the markup on the tires and $.

My dealer (and many others) are the same way and frankly, I don't blame them. Inevitably, everything is cheaper online and I was getting put in the same position in my business. I initially started installing customer-bought parts & equipment, but ran into issues with warranty when they were defective or just plain junk. The online company ALWAYS tries to blame the installer for the problems and it turns into a huge cluster f*ck. So, for the last 5 years, I won't install a part or equipment unless I sold it. Sure, I could just jack up the installation price in order to makeup the difference, but it really is about liability (at least in my case).
That's BS...Labor is labor....it's money in their pockets...Yeah they can make more money if they sell the damn tires but look at how easy it is to lose a customer...and labor...That's just plain Bullshit...Liability....funny **** there.
My tires are getting up there at 16,000 (Dunlop E3's) but will go 20,000.Dealer wants 500 bucks for the original thin line whitewalls.I can get blackwalls from Dennis Kirk for 300 bones.Local shop will mount for 80 bucks.Screw Harley.
I would say 80% of shops will not install tires that are not bought there, just the way it goes. I also buy online, but I also remove and install the tires myself, a couple tire spoons and 15 min, it's done quick it's done right and it doesn't cost me a dime.
