Default Each To His/Her Own

I don't split lanes any time here in NJ. Someone is liable to open their door out of spite or put you in a pinch because they have an attitude. If I'm in that big of a hurry I'd rather show up late, than hurt. I'm sure there are many who would disagree with me, but, I need to be in my own comfort zone. Sitting in hot traffic sucks, though not nearly so much since I got my crotch cooler.

Last summer I opted to take the car for a ride out on Long Island instead of the bike. Upper 90's with stop and go traffic. We passed many a bike pulled over on the side of the road, waiting out traffic under some shade. Just my opinion but if you regularly find yourself needing to push limits, you may need to re-evaluate your riding practices.

Kind of funny actually. The State with some of the most screwed up laws (and thinking) in the Country is the only one that allows lane splitting.

Cannot stress the importance of getting used to your scoot. Dont get caught up in the peer pressure thing, ride alone for awile, and if ya really want to get sharp take one of the obstacle course classes...that will definately sharpen ur wits.

Seems like the key point here is ride to your comfort level and not past it. Makes sense. I'm sure there are people out the who would crowd a bike that was splitting but it seems most people I see (myself included of course) try to give a bike extra room if they see it coming up behind em splitting. Not saying they all will though.

I lane split at times, especially at stop lights. ....And sometimes unintentionally when I come up to an intersection and the guy in the cage decides to make a right turn in front of me, rolling the red light, while I swerve to the left.

I wouldn't call it lane splitting but if I am at a stop light and there are 2-3 cars in front of me and no one is turning then sometimes I may scoot around the side of them so I can make my turn and continue on my way. That's about the only type of "splitting" that I've ever done. I probably do it once a month or so on average I would guess.

Lane splitting truly upsets cagers and makes them think all bike riders act like

Too damn bad if they don't like it. They can deal with it or they can lump it. I ain't gonna fry my motor or my 'nads 'cause some cager might get "upset".
