Red face Guilty?

Ok so new bike and it has been a full 2 weeks of riding minus the weekends when it's rained. Commute is about 23 miles each way and it is so much fun now. My guilt comes in because the way home I take the diamond lane. I do not lane split so when it slows I do too. I guess I may later but for now I would like to get more comfortable. I guess I was wondering if anyone else out there does not lane split or is everyone do it?

Yes and no. I'll do it if the traffic slows to a stop or is going slow. When it hits 30mph or so I'll get back in line and follow. You need to do what feels safe and comfortable to you, not me. Peer pressure is a killer.

Ride your own ride.

I miss splitting lanes, cant do it here in texas, but I grew up in socal, and man when that traffic hits you can pass it up. And at a stop light you get to go to the front of line, away from the idiots. I remember when I was young and dumb on my crotch rocket I was racing some one doing a 100+ and splitting lanes, I look back at it know and thank god I was never hurt.

I only split if it is dead stopped. I ride the "rolling oven"; an '07 RKC. I hafta.

Sorry, I am on the other side of the fence. Lane splitting truly upsets cagers and makes them think all bike riders act like that. Is a pet peeve of mine. For example, when I go to the store, I park in a regular spot. I refuse to park in the stripped areas and mean NO PARKING at the end of the lanes or right up near the building. Just a pet pevee of mine.

Do whatever makes you comfortable and take your time, no shame in that. I split but depends on the speed of traffic as well.

You need to lighten up....the world isn't perfect. If you are worried about what upsets cagers why do you even own a motorcycle? I park on the striped areas and leave a full spot for the guy in the car.

I live in the SF Bay area. Most car drivers don't get bothered by lane sharing, unless the bike passing is being obnoxious. In many cases the drivers see us coming and move to make the area wider. Those that do usually get a "thank you" wave from the biker.

Don't live in CA do you? It's legal here and most drivers move over a bit to let us by.
